Our expert food critics review all the great eat out places you need to know about.
Sagara Location:Vazhuthacaud Reviewed by : Nisha Salim Do you love seafood? If the thought of Fried Neymeen (Seer Fish), Crabs, Mussels and other assorted seafood makes your salivary glands work overtime, Sagara is a must visit. Sagara is a cozy little family restaurant located in the ground floor of T.N Samrudhi Chambers. It’s very easy to spot, just opposite the back gate of Govt. Women’s College, Vazhuthacad. Next to the SBI ATM. The service is not too bad, the food is great and the ambience, though nothing to write home about, is decent enough, can’t complain. Surprisingly, they serve Chinese too. It’s not a fancy restaurant, not at all. But if you want to eat fish, go to Sagara. Rating (out of 5): Taste: 4 Cleanliness: 4 Ambience: 3 Service: 3
Zero DegreeLocation: Tejaswini Food Court. Technopark Reviewed by: Nisha Salim Getting into the Tejaswini Food Court at rush hour is no picnic. If you manage to navigate through this crowd that is reminiscent of the college canteen during youth festival, you get to Zero Degree, smack in the middle of the food court. If you love softee ice creams then you are in for a small treat. Mister Softee, the US based ice cream truck franchisor, was the first to sell soft ice creams, way back in 1956. Zero Degree has nothing to do with Mister Softee, but they do have cold, soft, fluffy, cream-cheese textured ice creams in any flavor as long as it is vanilla or chocolate. We are not complaining much, the ice-creams are okay though more variety in the flavors would be a welcome change. The softee cones are long and pointy, they look like small snow capped peaks in your hands. There is not much skimping on the quantity and they start at twenty bucks apiece. A softee cone is perfect after a meal, but if you fancy a big bowl of ice cream or even want to substitute your entire meal with ice cream, you can always choose the sundaes which are quite pleasing to the palette. Zero Degree makes up for the lack of choice in flavors with their creative range of sundaes. Litchi Delight is my personal favorite, litchis and ice cream go very well together and the combination of tiny strips of litchis, the jelly, sauce and the cold vanilla fluff is quite delightful indeed. Some of the items in the menu are never available, Waffle slabs for example. Sadly, though there are plenty of ice cream parlors offering waffle cones, waffle slabs still remain ”exotic” in Trivandrum. Since Zero Degree has included it in their menu, it won’t be such a bad thing if they answer in the affirmative to a hungry (greedy) customer’s question, “Waffles undo, Chetta?” Rating (out of 5): Taste: 4 Cleanliness: 4 Ambience: 2 Service: 3
